WHO’S IN CHARGE?

One of the actions taken during the Business Meeting at Reunion 2001 was the selection of OFFICERS and BOARD MEMBERS. The Nominating Committee offered a full slate and, for fear that their name would come up, it was immediately approved and seconded by cowardly individuals. Since the crowd was also filled with the same fear that they might be stuck with the job, the slate was given unanimous approval. The result is listed below with phone numbers included if anyone wants to volunteer to assist in their endeavors or, in hope of a financial reward, subsequent forward of that information to the IRS.

Since none of the above are overly endowed with a desire to work, they plan to APPOINT a bunch of underlings to do many of the mundane matters that have to do with running the Association. The lucky appointees of their largess (none of whom until now know they have been tapped) are:

CHAPLAIN BILL MINELLI 817-620-6730

HISTORIAN FRANK KLEINWECHTER 817-249-0423

ASST HISTORIANS      DON PYEATT 817-534-0209

MONEY TALKS

BUGS WARNER spent a lot of our money on the reunion, almost $9,000 more than we took in. But with all the free beer, freebies and other good stuff, who’s to complain? Besides, BUGS says we still have almost $40,000 in the kitty, $39,995 to be exact but $10,582 is in Life Member Escrow.

Since we are in such good shape, even after our reunion extravagances, it was decided to REDUCE THE DUES FROM $10 PER YEAR ($5 FOR WIDOWS) TO $5 PER YEAR ($2 FOR WIDOWS) AND LIFE MEMBER FROM $100 TO $50 EFFECTIVE 1 JAN 2002. I repeat, EFFECTIVE 1 JAN 2002. Before any of you begin to cry tears as big as horse apples because you just sent in your 10 bucks for this year, fear not, BUGS is already full of ideas on how to make sure you get your money back in the form of reunion subsidies. Course you’ll have to come to the reunion to find out what. One thought making the rounds is to have a set price which would include Welcome Dinner, Banquet and Brunch for about half what it costs. That price would be applicable to the member and spouse (or one guest) but any extra attendees would have to pay full price. And another thing, for those who come in at the last minute and want to sign up for events, there would be a $10 surcharge per individual. You have no idea of the consternation that reigns supreme because of last minute numbers given to our suppliers.

While the subject of reservations is on the table, there were a few instances of gross inconsideration about Banquet seating. As was noted in the SCANNER advising of the reunion; was pointed out verbally several times during the reunion; and WARREN ARTHUR had his table reservation chart front and center all the while, there were some who came in for the banquet and sat down wherever they chose and in places already reserved by others. They refused to move. Even worse, in a couple instances they started to eat their salad (before invocation and pledge to the flag!) It sure renewed my faith in the death penalty. Table reservations are easy to make and keeps old friendships alive and well. Lets all do our best to make the reunion a happy time for all. Speaking of happy, this reunion was notorious for all the happy smiles seen all over the place all of the time, see photos on following pages.

ETCETERA

A pleasant surprise for many of us was to meet ANN ASCOL. Her father was lost in the B-36 crash in British Columbia and she just wanted to relive a part of his life. She is one of us having spent a career in the Air Force and retired as Lt. Col. Now she is a B-36er, by proxy, and is obligated to make it to all other reunions.

ROGER EARNEST, son of EMMAN EARNEST who served at Carswell until 1954, asked GINNY HARRINGTON if anybody could send him vignettes about his life in the Air Force. If any of you have memories to share, send them to GINNY (address in the B-36 directory) or email her at irishgin@webtv.net.

BILL STINSON, one of us good guys who lives in Texas, volunteered to help out in future reunions. Now that’s what we need more of. BILL lives in Hillsboro, TX, which is not too close but he’s welcome to attend our quarterly business meetings. That invitation is open to everyone. We meet the 2nd Wednesday of January, April, July and October at 8AM at the "Westside Café," 7950 Hwy 80 W, Ft. Worth, TX. Us hungry guys come 15-20 minutes early and order a good breakfast so we can put up with all the bull that gets thrown around. Come see for yourself. You are particularly welcome if you are young. As you probably saw for yourself at the reunion, most of the current Officers and Board Members are so far over the hill that they can’t see the top anymore. We need all you young bloods to come in and take over. If you plan to attend, check with one of the guys prior to the date to make sure the meeting place hasn’t been changed.

HAPPINESS IS CONTAGEOUS, BE A CARRIER

CHAPLAIN’S CORNER

LORD, you invite us to the banquet of your kingdom, where there will be no more pain or mourning, no more sorrow or separation. Hear our prayer for our brothers and sisters who are experiencing this now so that they will find solace and peace of mind in their hearts and thoughts.

We ask for your blessing through CHRIST our LORD, Amen

The reunion Memorial Service went well. We all enjoyed the soloist and the quartet that performed for us. I appreciate your attention and presence during the service. You were great and I know that GOD will be with you and yours for our next reunion and beyond. Please feel free to contact me for religious uplifting if you feel that you are in need. I will do all I can to help you in any way possible; especially, in praying for GOD’s help.
