Our Board of Directors met September 10,2008 at the Radisson South Hotel. Our main topic of discussion was the upcoming reunion April 23 to 26 2009. We decided to not schedule any extra- curricular activities, but the SAC Monument is complete and was dedicated October 19,2007. If anyone is interested in seeing it, we can car-pool to the Naval Air Station.
I encourage everyone to start making plans to attend the final reunion. It looks like the price of gasoline has topped out so hopefully everyone can afford to come. We will use most of our remaining funds to subsidize meals and lodging. We will keep enough to meet any unexpected expenses during our closing

QQ Carswell ain't what it used to be. Most notable is the sign at the main gate Fort Worth Naval Air Station Carswell Field. The US Navy took over Carswell AFB when it closed in 1992, as a result of the base closure action. One may recall the small NAS at Grand Prairie and it was shared with Hensley Field and the Texas National Guard.
No one in their right mind thought or believed the AF or SAC would see closure of CAFB. Today Carswell Field is operated by the USN; SAC does not even exist. The bomber nuclear mission is de-emphasized and so little emphases have been placed on nuclear weapons; a recent mishandling event occurred that cost numerous officers their positions. General Curtis LeMay must be turning over in his grave from despair over what has happened to his SAC.
The US Navy has really done well with management of Carswell. The main road is lined with fighter aircraft and helicopters of all services. A beautiful SAC monument has been built to honor those of our ilk. New construction has taken place everywhere. The ramp is filled withF-16s, C-130s, etc.
The joint reserve base format is working well. Sadly, the great regional hospital is no longer servicing our medical needs, but has bad girls incarcerated in the prison system.
Overall, Carswell is still a great base. Retirees & active duty are well treated; the base is just as active as it used to be and going strong. BUT, it ain't Carswell AFB!

THE YEAR IS 1907, ONE HUNDRED YEARS AGO
Theodore Roosevelt's ideas on Immigrants and being an AMERICAN in 1907.
'In the first place, we should insist that if the immigrant who comes here in good faith becomes an American and assimilates himself to us, he shall be treated on an exact equality with everyone else, for it is an outrage to discriminate against any such man because of creed, or birthplace, or origin. But this is predicated upon the person's becoming in every facet an American, and nothing but an American...There can be no divided allegiance here. Any man who says he is an American, but something else also, isn't an American at all. We have room for but one flag, the American flag... We have room for but one language here, and that is the English language... and we have room for but one sole loyalty and that is a loyalty to the American people.'
Theodore Roosevelt 1907 - Every American citizen needs to read this!
